Following any orthodontic programme the teeth will take time to adjust to their new position. To keep them in place we advise using retainers.

The most frequently used retainer is formed from transparent plastic that has been custom shaped to fit your teeth. It is worn overnight to help retain the final position of the teeth and maintain your new smile. If retainers are not used, the teeth will try to move back to their original positions.

To maintain your new smile for the long term we recommend that the retainer is worn nightly. After six months this may be reduced to five nights a week. In some circumstances we may recommend a bonded retainer. These are fixed to the back of the teeth and cannot be removed. Before we commence your orthodontic treatment we will always discuss our advice with regard to the best type of retainer that will work best for you and your circumstances.
